[quote="Big Mac 1985" post_id=9849 time=1638397687 Who are we to judge why people take such pride? Let them. Nothing wrong with that. Perhaps pride was the wrong term. Nothing wrong with a bit of local pride at all. It's more the constant moaning about the town from people who've never li...

Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

If there is any question of the qualification to be a "true" Sandgrounder, special dispensation should be granted to exiles who have remained true fans for 25 years (or 50 years in my case)............. Please !. Absolutely. I'm not sure why some people take such pride in the fact that th...

Paddy Lacey: The footballer who went to prison and could now become a top boxer https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59321032 Good article, well worth a read I was a bit disappointed he didn't credit Liam Watson to be honest - Liam and Southport gave him a footballing opportunity after being in pri...

Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

The Southportonians is a great nickname that should be brought back. https://www.portchat.net/images/icons/smile/question.gif Absolutely no! Since I moved away from Southport over 40 years ago I've always told people that the name for people from Southport is Sandgrounder and that there's no such t...

Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

Some of those old kits are fascinating. While we should keep old gold for as many games as possible, a change strip inspired by some of those old combos would be good. We had the green and white hooped one at the start of the Treadwell regime, did we not? Not a classic. I've always thought a black ...

The Apollo Leisure Arena.
Naming it after a company that no longer exists tends to defeat the object of the exercise.
Wow.

Re: Lanc Trophy v Daisy Hill

Yes,the long throw is great if you have Gray and Sharp up front!! It's evidently great with the players we have too. Or is it anti football when it's us but potential European champions from the school of science when it was them? Even Liverpool had a throw-in coach last season. Not to learn how to...

Terrific result! Well done, Liam and the lads.

I also have concerns over Carver leaving. Keeping him and Tharme are crucial if we are to surprise anyone this season.

Re: Macclesfield FC BBC i player documentary

At that level up until fairly recently unless I'm mistaken players were mostly on non-contract terms and some even amateur contracts- £400 a week in the North West Counties sounds ridiculous especially when you think that's probably more than we pay most of our players - 3 levels above. I'd imagine...

Re: Southport 3-2 Chester - Match Thread

Terrific win. Always good to beat Chester! But I reiterate again, we need some older heads in there quickly. Against a better side, we don’t hold out for the win. A couple of experienced lads would help us in that respect. A lot of this league is about managing a game. We did well to get the three p...

Re: Southport 3-0 Darlington - Match Thread

A word again on the improving overall great atmosphere generated on a Tuesday night(and Saturday's) at Southport FC. It probably helps on a dry, mild night(and also when we win!) but from the extra people in the bar to the brilliant fan zone(something different) better facillities-food and drink in...
