Re: Southport 2-3 Altrincham - CUP FEVER - Match Thread

Thanks David and RF for agreeing but I’d also thank people for disagreeing as that’s what a forum is! it’s only my opinion but I feel Portchat is becoming too antagonistic. We can be optimistic cheerleaders, logical realists or pessimistic moaners - it’s all allowed. It’s an exchange of views. Let’s...

Re: Southport 2-3 Altrincham - CUP FEVER - Match Thread

Said it before, saying it again. It is not this forums job to attract fans to Haig Avenue or be cheerleaders for the club. Posters who are unhappy with the style of football we play & the position we find ourselves shouldn’t be dismissed as ‘moaners’. A forum is defined as ‘a place where people ...

Re: Southport v Altrincham Predictions

My first live in-person game for 785 days and by then I will not have seen us win for 2017 days, so my gut feeling is a defeat. Sorry Will you have to drop the first part of your username tomorrow then, EPF? I’m not one for predictions but I think we can give it a real go and could surprise Alty.

Re: FT York City 3-1 Southport - Match thread

Agree with your thoughts on the 5-3-2 Port On The Kent - devising a system to suit what you’ve got and taking form (good or bad) into account is the eternal dilemma for managers. When things are going right it all falls into place but when things aren’t everything seems difficult.

Re: FT York City 3-1 Southport - Match thread

On the 5–3-2 - having 5 at the back means we’re outnumbered in both the midfield and forward lines (2/3rds of the pitch). In the area where we outnumbered the opponent we didn’t attack the ball so York had easy, unchallenged crosses and easy, unchallenged headers. We need to step up to opponents &am...

Re: FT York City 3-1 Southport - Match thread

A deserved win for York. We led and had a short encouraging period when 2-1 down and Issac & Connor brought some new ideas on. Apart from that it was all York, I resign myself to us only getting 25-30% possession per match. Our best work in the first half was when the ball was on the floor and p...

Re: Southport 3-2 Spennymoor - Match Thread

For me,some really good posts on the above.Port on the Kent again... SteH90-take a bow...That's one of the best summings up on Southport FC I've read on here in ages, and says everything. We should be talking about the players-and if we are then that surely means we are on the right track? (Blushes ...

Re: Southport 3-2 Spennymoor - Match Thread

Hi BigMac1985 - i know you were referring to another poster but personally, I used Devachat to illustrate how forums don’t reflect reality - the situation both at Haig Avenue & Chester isn’t necessarily reflected accurately on forums. Too often on here, posts are either outright criticism becau...

Re: Southport 3-2 Spennymoor - Match Thread

The great thing about this seasons Port is the spirit and togetherness. No matter the result there’s not been a match I’ve seen where you can say they didn’t give it everything. Yeah, there’s times I despair at whacking it up the field when there’s a free man in space but when we win & show the ...

Re: Spennymoor 0-0 Southport - I'm coming down with a bad case of Cup Fever - Match Thread

Games on alright but now the main question is who’s standing with Liam in the dug out. I’m at the back of the Main Stand so it’s not obvious who it is. Liam says in the programme he’s got a few ideas for assistant and hopes to name one in the near future.

Re: York 0-1 Hereford

It is what it is, at the moment, but when the staggered start resolves it's self we will be up there pushing for a playoff spot. We were drawn in lane 1, so we have catching up to do but at the end if the race everyone will have run the same distance. Cheer up everyone, it will look much better in ...

Re: York 0-1 Hereford

I disagree badger because clubs need a unique selling point and only one club can be in bottom place so that’s our USP! Now, taking my tongue from my cheek, I’d say that it’s a widely held belief amongst us fans that our position doesn’t reflect the football we’ve played but the difficulty of fixtur...

Re: Brackley Town 1-0 Southport - Match Thread

Yes, Ste_B, agree that if we get players in they will be youngsters on the fringes of first teams in Leagues 1,2 or the National League. Very unlikely to get experienced players coming to us on loan. There’s some advantages to a smaller squad (players don’t feel left out, better camaraderie & no...

Re: Brackley Town 1-0 Southport - Match Thread

We must bring in a couple of experienced loan players immediately if we have no cash to bring in permanent signings. Liam is supposed to know the local non-League like the back of his hand, so bring a couple of players in. Where are our supposed friends, Liam, John Cole and the like? If any clubs a...

Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

Saw both Steven Tames (4 goals in 40 Port appearances) & Josh Dobie (45 minutes of a Port appearance) contribute to the winning side in Prescot Cables 2 Ramsbottom United 1 this afternoon. Ramsbottom were better on the ball & had a lot of possession but Cables stood firm and got two very dif...
