The prison squad! Yes, I’d forgotten.

Re: Leamington

Still no goalkeeper? Or are they going to put Marcus in goal because he’s not fit enough to play up front?
It’s very worrying.

Re: Marcus Carver

I hope it works out, but it’s rather sad for Marcus to be back here having failed to make an impact higher up. The fact he has an injury doesn’t sound too good either.
Liam shouldn’t stop looking for players to strengthen the squad.

Re: Earlier KOs

No need for ridiculously early kickoffs. 2.15 would enable games to be played in natural light. I’d be in favour.

Re: Leamington

Brakes - thanks for the detail, which I had forgotten. The hibernation makes it very different from Stanley and it is quite an inspiring story. So apologies. My initial point was ‘ how on earth has Leamington managed to get a decent team together with, apparently, far fewer resources than Southport ...

Re: Leamington

That was AP Leamington. I’m well aware of the history. They went bust and there was no club in Leamington for 12 or 13 years. This club may claim some continuity but it’s bogus, like Accrington Stanley.

Re: Southport v Longridge

So yet another injury through playing in this pointless competition. Madness.
Worrying that Cam is still not right. I hope there’s no serious brain injury.

Re: Leamington

This looks like a very tough game. Another team with little history, limited support and a very basic ground which seems to have passed us by and could well be in the playoffs. I hope we can at least get a draw. Depends on what team we put out, and whether we get some breaks at last.

These games should be played as pre-season competitions rather than meaningless friendlies.
Remember the Marsden Cup? Decent crowd against Burnley.

Re: Darlington 3-2 Southport - FA Cup - Match Thread

Season over. Just another dreary fight against relegation where ending fifth from bottom in the sixth tier will be counted as a triumph.

Re: Chester 1-0 Southport - Match Thread

This can’t go on.
In five years we have gone from perpetual strugglers in the National League to perpetual strugglers in NLN. Unless something dramatic happens we are nailed-on certainties for NPL next season.

Re: Banbury 3-1 Southport - Match Thread

Ralphy, I know you disagree with me on principle, but how is Alfreton’s catchment area for players anywhere near as good as ours?

Re: Banbury 3-1 Southport - Match Thread

It is difficult to see how clubs such as Alfreton do better than us. They have smaller crowds, no corporate hospitality worth the name, miles fewer advertising hoardings, a rubbish pitch and laughable terraces and seating, they’re in a very poor area miles from anywhere. What have they got that we h...

Re: Transfer Rumours

2pm or 2.15 kickoffs on winter Saturdays- as we used to do in the late 50s before floodlights and I think we did briefly in the 70s during power cuts. Makes sense.

Re: Transfer Rumours

‘Former favourite’ means absolutely nothing in this context. It’s what Rob writes in visitors’ notes about a player who turned out for us a few times. Marcus? If he was in the state of mind he was last Autumn, yes. But having uprooted his family but failed to succeed in his last chance at league foo...
