Re: Portchat or Port Chat?

....And why are stands called stands when you sit in them? I suppose if they were called ‘sits’ it could get awkward at larger ground ticket offices when asking the seller ‘do you have the sits?’ Probably because the first structures at football grounds erected for spectators were for standing spec...

Re: Ian Baines Interview

I don't remember him at all. When did he play and what position?. 144 appearances in 2 spells 1987-88 and 1989-1993. A stalwart of the magnificent Northern Premier League championship side. Solid and dependable in defence and midfield. https://www.southportfootballclub.co.uk/players/player-details/...

Re: Popular or poplar

It could be officially renamed the popular poplar side. I noticed poplar road too the other day and wondered whether it had something to do with the name Whilst many grounds have sides or ends named after the nearest streets behind them It would be a bit odd to name a side of a ground after a stree...

For those bemoaning the lack of news the club has released some news, and it is that there'll be no news this weekend.

Honestly don't know where people get the alternative from.

From official programmes.

The sign was removed.
The sign now says "Pine tree garden maintenance stand" but they're not pine trees behind it.

Any where the views aren't obstructed by a post, by the sponsors' lounge or by the opaque panels at either end.

Re: Popular or poplar

Popular.
It was a common (popular even!) name in the past for side terraces at quite a few football grounds.
The club confirmed it was "Popular" a couple of years ago after the debacle of the "Poplar Terrace" sign.

Re: News of Former Players - it's back!

Ok thanks Ste does that apply if he walks away at the end of his contract? A sell-on clause would only apply if they sold him! So we don't know what we got for him & if he walks away out of contract Southport FC get naff all....not quite what we were told when he left the club, I think Accringt...

Do you think we will get any money from Accrington, a blow if we don't....
There is a sell-on clause.

Re: Come follow southport...a club where fans views matter

Hopefully we’ll be making some sort of extra effort to attract local Liverpool or Man Utd fans to the club. Apart from the obvious, a red away kit perhaps? By all means market the club to them but we should certainly not change our club's image to reflect theirs. Surely the point is we offer an alt...

Re: Come follow southport...a club where fans views matter

Ref Liverpool fans, perhaps a cheap day return fare could be agreed with Merseyrail to bring them to Southport for the day  They already do cheap day tickets on what is already the cheapest rail network. Have done for decades. That's one of the reasons people from Southport have flocked to An...

could be a few disgruntled PL fans will make their way to Haig Ave as a result of the latest moneyball manouvering, hope so. Given Liverpool are our closest club I suspect their fans will return to watching Molde or FC Tromso.... Overseas fans are precisely the sort of fans this super league is aim...

Well we're an English club so that seems to put us ahead of most of Europe in the queue.
