Re: Squad 21/22

No complaints about the players leaving, wouldn't have complained if a few more had joined them. Although it is impossible to analyse properly until the recruitment is completed as the squad roles aren't clear. I wouldn't keep Benjamin as a regular starter, but I would have him in the squad, as an e...

Re: New Director

Good news, hopefully more additions to come. Goodness knows that Ian and Liam have done all sorts for this club, but if there's one criticism of them it's that they are both so laid back they are horizontal, we need a bit of outside influence and a bit of ooomph (techincal language) to ensure we don...

Re: Good news?

To try and steer pontification back to Port...how this affects us is unclear, but I am optimistic about the season ahead. The "roadmap" depends on certain criteria and is not set in stone, but if it's followed, there should be full football attendance come August with no social distancing ...

Re: Squad assessment

For me, I would keep twelve out of that lot. Doyle, Challoner, Anson, Ali, Benjamin, Vassallo, Wood, Woods, Watson, Archer, Carver, Newell. Given how many times we start from scratch, that is not a bad basis. A few of them I see as squad players. I doubt this is our aim, but for me, there's about ha...

Re: Season declared null and void

Correct descision made... eventually. We cannot sweep this season under the carpet though, 17th place in the sixth tier at the time of null and void is our worst finish since 1980/81. We have been saved from a forty odd year embarrassment, but let's use this as a 'get out of jail free card' and sort...

Re: James Tedford gone

Best of luck to James, always been a terrific advocate of the club and a great representative. The transformation off the pitch has been exceptional, to think we went from "two yellow kits" Haydn to a chap with such professionalism. Main influences, too many to mention, but consolidating t...

Re: Liam Watson post match

Both barrels, he's spot on that the Board have cocked up to such an extent they have abdicated their duties to clubs. What was the point in that two week suspension? As we reach the end of it, we are no closer to a resolution on any of the issues, apart from a vote which doesn't close for another co...

Re: Southport v Torquay FA Trophy

Couldn't give a toss about the game, the season is over and it carries less importance to me than a pre-season. As YTT has said elsewhere, I don't know why we're contesting. If you take the righteous high ground and refuse to play league matches on health and safety grounds, you undermine yourself b...

Best of luck to him, great servant. League 1 is one hell of a jump and at 26 is he likely to develop leaps and bounds like Dion has? I have my doubts but I wish him all the very best. After the season we've had, we need a complete fresh start from top to bottom when minds can finally refocus on foot...

Re: Carry on football!

I just listened to the BT Sport report on the National League situation. It completely misrepresented the position saying that ‘clubs just want to play football’ Well they do have the broadcasting rights so no surprise there. I caught some of the Bromley match on BT earlier (don't ask) and a certai...

Re: The season now what?

All this boils down to the fact the National League left a meeting with a promise and nothing else. Even Chamberlain got something on paper. Not even a promise by the sounds of it. This is the root of all this, the meetings before the season were stunningly short term-ist and there was a naive beli...

Re: Carry on football!

In fairness to teams who want to continue, they will be making an analysis of what they have spent already against what the loan repayments may be. Teams who have "gone for it" such as Gloucester or Fylde, will be thinking that flushing all the money they have spent so far down the toilet ...

Re: Carry on football!

Liam makes some great points and it's another vote for calling it a day here. The difficulty the National League are in, is that despite only encompassing two tiers, the member clubs are so diverse it is difficult to apply equal treatment to all. This crude elite/non-elite distinction is too simplis...

Re: Match Thread Halifax Town v Southport - FA Trophy

You've got to question why Halifax didn't switch it at the weekend... we play like the blind school at home but always have a result in us away.

Well done all, the way things are going I can't see it counting for much but it's a welcome cash boost given current context.

Re: Halifax FA Trophy

Only got bad memories of going to Halifax, bit of a voodoo ground. Was that 02/03 game the last time we won there? I remember losing in the last minute in 05/06, getting cheated out of a win in 06/07 when Blakeman ended up in net, lost under A Wright 0-1 and Foyle 1-2, think we blew a 2-0 lead to dr...

Re: Darlington off

My primary concern is the league stumbles on for a few more weeks before being settled by PPG or after one round of fixtures. In that eventuality, we only need lose our next two or three games and we could be finished. The next league game, whenever that is, is massive. With the threat of early curt...
