Well, quite an unexpected result indeed! Many thanks to the teams perseverance and ability to come from behind twice, plus winning the penalties. Thanks must also go to Watson and McCarthy for changing the formation and bolster midfield.
It was scary expecting a goal from their free kick, but to quickly respond with the Ali goal, superb. We still don’t look comfortable on the ball, and after one or two passes, hoof it forwards. Archer worked hard and didn’t deserve his card. Carver continues to underperform and crosses into the box continually disappoint.
Enter Woods, and what a change!! Playing on the ground with more speed and determination, he lifted the teams performance immensely, and we looked dangerous in the final third. Sadly, at the moment, he is an impact player.
Let’s hope we get a favourable draw today. The incentive is £13,500 or £9,750 as loser.
The Port league position, has been a downer since Blyth (4th), and apart from the Kettering and Bradford interludes, now stands at 13th. Improvements? Keep the faith, tweak the system, push Morgan forward, and give us supporters something to cheer on Boxing Day.

These are old figures, before the FA slashed the FA Cup and FA Trophy prize fund due to the impact of Covid-19 on their finances.

Mr C's figures are exactly correct. They are cumulative. We have already earned £8,250. If we can win another round the total win will be £13,500.

Good to get a win. We were always in it, although most of the old faults were still on display. Would be nice to have a good run in the Trophy, though it’s a shrunken competition both in terms of money and prestige compared with a couple of decades ago.
Must admit I didn’t actually see our penalty win. I can’t bear penalties at the best of times and I don’t see why they couldn’t play extra time even if replays are scrapped. When Niall Watson missed his, I switched off as I thought that was it. So a nice surprise coming on Port Chat later to see we’d won. Football can still surprise, which is why we put up with it.

If we’ve already earned £8,250, it’s misleading to say the incentive to win the match is £13,500.

Great to get the win in a game which was entertaining for periods and then scrappy at other times.

Well done to the team and management for getting the win. What was pleasing to see was that we kept going even when behind twice in the game and kept our heads up. Both our goals from set pieces again though.

Spennymoor looked more effective with the ball at their feet with quick passing and interplay work. We looked so much better when we move the ball up the field on the ground. Ali picks good passes from the back and Antwi also passes and moves well - he needs to start every game. Benjamin does not seem to have the same composure or passing skills for me. In addition both full backs always go for long hoofballs from the back and we rarely get anything from that approach. Interesting the Spennymoor commentators passed the same comment, but good to see they praised our fighting spirit. When Woods came he ran at their defence, did not get pass them every time, but did on some occasions and only then did we look like we might score from open play. I like Nial Watson as a player but he had a poor game yesterday. Macmillan cannot kick with his right foot! - but had a reasonable game otherwise.

Really great that we won - but we do need to work on linking our play as we progress upfield. I thought we closed Spennymoor down better than we have played in recent games which was also good to see.

He said it’s the incentive to win, which it isn’t. You can’t have money you’ve already earned as an incentive.

And it’s “you’re”. :D

I’m with you. Though I guess it does make a little sense if we’re yet to physically receive the prize money.
