Future football league players?

Post by Paulisi »

It's no secret that Liam has been bringing in young players with the aim of developing them and moving the better ones on for a decent transfer fee into the football league. Liam has a track record for this with the likes of Dion and Devarn recently.

Who do you think within this squad has what it takes and will move into the football league?

In my opinion there are several that could step up, but are nowhere near the finished article yet.
Connor Woods is the obvious candidate as he can change a game, but needs at least one full season at this level.

Connor has improved massively since we signed him.

I think Jack Bainbridge has looked very assured since he has been moved into midfield. His decision-making could be better at times, but he’s a candidate to move back up the leagues.

With such a young team, players could develop suddenly and get themselves a move higher up the pyramid.

I think we have at present at least 4 with maybe more to come-not that I'm advocating this- but as a club we have to be realistic.
Cameron Mason is nailed on IMHO,right age mid twenties especially as players in his position can play until their late thirties and beyond sometimes. He's worth 100k of anybody's money now-and that would be cheap (sell on obviously) Connor Woods obviously.I can see him being another Dion if he can get over these niggling injuries he seems to get.Great prospect though, direct with pace to burn which is always an attraction for suitors.Worth good money now for me.Adam Anson when he's settled into the regular week to week rigours of "mens football" Cool on the ball, doesn't panic and will get better and better for me.Josh Hwawi, rejected once I think but will take a familiar role as others have done IMHO of going back to then go foward. Great engine on him, aggressive and can run all day.Fantastic prospect.

There are definetely others too who could come good, but those 4 stand out to me.Patience the key with all these young lads though.

Any excuse to have a go at LW. This is how it works all the way through the football league pyramid.

Interesting thoughts. I thiink it is much harder for goalkeepers to jump up the leagues and personally I have Dylan slightly ahead of Josh at the moment. I'm a big fan of Doug Tharme.

According to Liam's article in the NLP a couple of weeks ago, three players have had official enquiries
Carver, Thame( I assume) and another.

I suspect we may have to be busy bringing in new players as Liam won't stand in the way of players moving into the league

The interest in Tharme is understandable but odd, given he'd been playing at this level already and was available for free in the summer.

I would go for Adam Anson as a player with ability to play a higher level. Good in the air, reads the game well. Strong in the tackle and has a turn of speed when required. He is also comfortable playing the ball to feet. A modern all round centre back . I want us to keep our current squad for the season and dependent on the outcome strengthen for next season. But finances will as always dictate who we sign. As an aside I would like us to firm up whatever contract we have with Terry McPhillips because I cannot be the only one to have noticed a big improvement in our play since he arrived. Surely not a coincidence???

Following from the previous postings we play Solihull Moors next week in the Trophy. Of course it depends on what team Solihull play but it will be a good test for our lads. They are aspiring to the plays offs in the National league and we are aspiring to the play offs in ‘North’.. come on the Port.

Carver has supposedly had enquiries from Hartlepool and Carlisle. Tharme has been linked with Barnsley.

Terry McPhillips signing lengthy contract should be a matter of priority IMO.

Think that’s the Watson factor. All due respect to those who’ve managed Doug previously but they won’t have the record of spotting talent and moving it into the League that Liam has (I’m sure it was mentioned recently that it’s 20+ players).

Things have been great since Liam and Terry teamed up, but it was Liam who assembled this squad, don't forget that.

He has certainly made a difference but all the signs were there, even during the opening 8 games, which as we all knew (and is proven by the league table) were going to be very tough.
The most important thing is, we are one of the best 4 sides in the league, lets all rejoice in that. I predict by the end of Jan we will be 4th or 5th.

I think the jury is still out on that, for me. I’ve not checked since but as of last weekend we’ve just one league win against a side in the top half in all season.

I agree, but haven't we also only had one league loss against any of the other top 6, which is I presume where we're aiming now?
