Just wondering why his name does not appear as a possible replacement for Marcus Carver.

Even though he is playing in a league lower than ours he certainly knows where the net is!
It's a big risk moving someone up 3 divisions.
Yes, it can be a big risk.
In the early 90s we signed Jon Penman, IIRC for £20K from a North Lancashire club in a lower league. He had a super scoring record, but just couldn't do the business in the Conference. He scored a few - I remember a good goal at Dover - but departed fairly soon.

He missed two sitters yesterday McMillan went down in slow motion to save.

Marc Lloyd-Williams may be a good example of why we shouldn’t just rush for a guy who has a load of goals in a lesser league.

Marc scored 319 goals in the welsh league, either side of a 3 goal spell with us.

We signed him on the back of a 68 goal in only 55 game spell at Bangor.

Huge shame it didn’t work out with us, but it also didn’t work out at Stockport, York and Altrincham. Sometimes, players just have a level.
Alan McDonald was more versatile than a Swiss Army knife.

I remember his overhead kick in our 5-0 / 5-1 demolition of Carlton Palmers Stockport in a friendly.

I remember being really excited by his signing. It was the first season of squad numbers in the Conference and I was toying between his 8 and Steve Soley's 10. I went for Soley. Christ    .

That was the season we beat Notts County. We all know what happened next...

Thank goodness Port didn't have such a knee jerk after 4 draws and 4 losses.
